2022 Carignane Old Vines

All good things, as the saying goes... but still, it makes us melancholy to see these old vines give us their last juice. Luckily, their legacy will live a long life ahead in these bottles. Because this is the last vintage and because the 2022 deserved its own voice, we bottled this Carignane as a standalone wine for just the second time (previosly only in 2013). Alfred said his father loved Carignane and always kept some in the barn to share with whichever friend might happen to stop by. Today, that friend is you. Showing a dense, purple color with garnet highlights as well as a highly aromatic bouquet of exotic spices, ripest red fruits and peppery garrigue. The palate illustrates the Mediterranean microclimate of the Alfred Frediani Vineyard with lush, palate-staining red raspberry fruit, incense, potpourri and cracked pepper all giving lift to the long finish.

Reviews
From the final harvest of these old vines before being replanted to Cabernet, the 2022 Old Vines Carignane is gorgeous, offering red and blue fruits, peppery herbs, leather, and violets. Medium-bodied, fresh, and focused, with beautiful purity and precision, this 100% Carignan is a stunning achievement. Drink over the next 8-10 years.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2022 Old Vines Carignan Alfred Frediani strides confidently out of the glass with notes of stewed plums, blackberry pie, and garrigue, leading to hints of tar and wild sage. The full-bodied palate is rich and expressive with a plush texture and lively line, finishing long and savory.
