Old vines are getting more and more rare in Napa Valley, but we are carrying the torch for the last time with the final vintage of this old vine red. Sourced from the mixed block at Alfred Frediani’s organically-farmed heritage vineyard, the interplanted array of Carignane, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Valdigué and other unidentified vines make for a historic, rare and deliciously complex red. The color is deep magenta with a purple core, and that complexity if carried through to the aromatics, with a huge variety of fruits, spices, and floral highlights. The palate is a touch more lush, soft, and inviting than past vintages of this cuvée - a strenghth of the vintage - allowing the flavors to unfold more gently caressing the palate. That does not detract from the sheer concentration of flavors on the long, powerful finish. 69 cases produced from one puncheon and one French oak barrel.
