2023 was an exceptional vintage with steady ripening of a moderate crop load, producing some of the most dense, vibrant wines we have seen in a long time. The 2023 Hyde Chardonnay is no exception and features abundant, complex aromatics of peach, lemon curd, lanolin, five-spice and a touch of mint. On the palate, there is an uncanny balance of freshness and weight, bringing richness without being heavy. The long finish features clean flavors and excellent length.
The 2023 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay leaps with vivacious notes of Golden Delicious apples and fresh nectarines with nuances of honeysuckle, allspice, and toasted almonds. The medium-bodied palate is wonderfully silky with amazing tension and impressive intensity, finishing on a lingering honey-nut note.
Rich, creamy, layered and vivid. A well-integrated blend of ripe pears, baked apples, lemon zest and a touch of creme caramel. Balanced by mild citrus acidity, the wine lingers long in the finish. A great example from a great vineyard. Wente clone grapes were barrel fermented in 50% new Chassin French barrels. Drink now or hold.
Relic has worked with Hyde Vineyard since 2019, sourcing from vines planted in 1989 using the old Wente clone. The 2023 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard offers beautiful honeyed lemon, lemon curd, white flowers, and a kiss of brioche in this clean, bright, medium-bodied effort, which was aged 17 months in 50% new French oak. It has solid concentration, integrated acidity, and a great finish. With roughly 102 cases produced, it will keep for a decade. Drink 2025-2035.
